I would like to begin the milestone post by thanking each and every single one of you for your support. Whether you’ve been with me since the beginning or are just a recent subscriber, watching this community grow and enjoy my work has been one of the best parts about this journey. The first of course has been writing. I’d like to give a shoutout to Mark Dykeman and Hilda Habia for their relentless support of my work. Your encouragement and engagement mean the world to me.
From Small Beginnings
When I started The Philosopher, I was a college freshman and a recent high school graduate looking for a place to share my thoughts and rants with the world in hopes of moving people through the written word the same way I had. I wanted to introduce different perspectives and start conversations that I wasn’t having out in the real world. Most importantly I wanted to give my readers some food for thought.
But in the beginning I was dead set on doing this in a specific way, more so looking to emulate those like Umair Haque on Medium who have built a large following breaking down the coming future apocalypse, and the deterioration of politics and the world around us. But over time, I learned to tap into my own experiences and discover my own voice along the way. During my second year on Substack I renamed the newsletter to ‘Food for Thought’ and the expansion of content has followed suit. This has included The Lemonade Stand where I discuss my wins of the week and Falafel Films where I break down some of my favorite films, discussing their themes and lessons.
Now free from self imposed restrictions, not only is writing more enjoyable but it’s much easier to see a bright future for Food for Thought. But the growth of the platform I have more things to write about which can be a bit overwhelming when it comes time to find which tab to cater to focus on. So I’m posing the question to you:
Analytics
Food for Thought currently stands at 34 subscribers, most of whom have come from Notes. My goal is to make it to 50 by the end of the year. Considering how young I was when I started this newsletter and how inexperienced I am, I’ve learned to practice patience with the slow growth that comes with the territory. Due to my low subscriber count, however, I have no plans on going paid anytime soon. My main priority will continue to put out quality work that you, dear reader, would like to see.
How You Can Support
Three years later, my vision for the page is to still be a source of food for thought for all who venture here. I’m so proud of how far the newsletter has come and the work I have yet to share with you all. A big goal of mine is to reach the coveted 100 subscribers and grow this page big enough to go paid and generate income I can put towards medical school tuition. But this can’t be done without your help. So please like and share my work with anyone you think will enjoy it. A big thanks again for your support. It’s been a great three years and I hope for another great three more!
